Once there was a dialogue between Sheikh Al-Baihani (may Allah have mercy on him) and a man, who was an ardent supporter of gender equality.

He began to speak in great lengths on the subject.

Suddenly, the Sheikh interrupted him and said:

أما الآن فاسكوتي و أنا أتكلم

“Now then, you be quiet and allow me to talk.” while using, in Arabic, the female form of second-person personal pronoun of “you”.

The man bursted into an anger and then said:

تخاطبني بخطاب المرأة ؟

“You used a female second-person personal pronoun to talk to me?

Then came the answer from the Sheikh:

ﻛﻴﻒ ﺗﺪﻋﻮ ﺇﻟﻰ ﻣﺴﺎﻭﺍﺗﻬﺎ ﻭﺃﻧﺖ ﻻ ترﺿﻰ ﺃﻥ ﺗﺴﺎﻭﻳﻬﺎ ﻓﻲ ﻣﺠﺮﺩ ﺿﻤﻴﺮ ﺍﻟﻤﺨﺎﻃﺒﺔ؟

“Then how could you call for the gender equality, when all the while you are displeased when somebody equallise you, although only in the terms of personal pronoun, with female?”

So the dialogue finished with the audience then burst into a laughter.
